How to Become a Rugby Union Match Official
Becoming a referee is easy. First, contact the TDRURA Admin Officer admin@tdrura.com.au. They will guide you through obtaining your qualification and the registration process, and soon you'll be on the field!
People usually become involved through the following roles:
Referee
If you want to become a referee, first achieve your Level 1 Refereeing qualification, suitable for those aged 12 and up. Begin with a Referee Ready Course, proceed with an online exam, and complete a field competency test after gaining some experience. Your accreditation is valid for four years, with renewal requiring an online exam. Courses are available at the Rugby Learning Centre.
Assistant Referee
Often referred to as 'Touch Judge', the official term is 'Assistant Referee'. To engage in refereeing rugby, begin by taking the Assistant Referee Level 1 course and pass the online exam through the Rugby Learning Centre.
